Medela

Medela is probably the most well-known brand of breast pumps. They have been around for more than 50 years, according to medela.us/ and have many pumps to choose from to fit your needs. They created the patented 2-Phase Expression® technology which mimics a breastfeeding baby. Their breast pumps are all around a great choice and they also have a lot of products to compliment their pumps as well. They also have a really great hospital grade pump that hospitals will rent out to breastfeeding mothers.

Here are some of the current pumps they have on the market:

Medela Pump In Style Advanced

Pump in Style Advanced is a popular choice by Medela that a lot of women use and love. These pumps come with everything you need to get started and carry around the pump.

Features of this pump:

  • Single or Double Pump Capability
  • Single Knob Adjustable Speed
  • Reliable brand
  • Closed system at the motor–milk can’t get in
  • Easily Portable
  • Many available accessories for Medela

This pump really is great choice from a reliable brand but milk and condensation can get into the tubing, so they need to be cleaned or replaced time to time. This pump is also quite noisy, so that is something to consider if you pump at work or a noisy pump bothers you.

The new Pump In Style with Max Flow Technology

A new pump for Medela, this Pump In Style pump is a great option. This one has fewer parts to clean and assemble than many pumps so it is faster to put together and use. This pump can be used with the battery pack which makes it flexible and on the go. The look of this pump is fairly stylish as well.

Features of this pump:

  • Single or Double Pump Capability
  • Easy to use and assemble
  • Very Quiet for the amount of power
  • Closed System
  • Reliable Brand
  • Easily portable with included battery pack

This is a new pump for Medela, so it hasn’t been around for too long. One advantage of this pump is that it is a closed system so milk won’t get into the tubing. There are fewer pieces to clean as well than the Spectra S1 or S2. The battery pack needs 8 AA batteries, which is quite annoying. When the batteries get low, the pump will not work as well.

Medela Freestyle Plus

The Medela Freestyle Plus is a small, stylish portable pump. For its size it is quite powerful and its so small it can be taken anywhere with ease. The whole unit is also rechargeable, which makes it easier to use than pumps with battery packs.

Features of this pump:

  • Single or Double Pump Capability
  • Fewer pieces to assemble
  • Rechargeable
  • Closed System–milk won’t get into tubing
  • Very Small and Portable
  • Can use with MyMedela App

The main complaints of this pump is that it may not be as powerful as other pumps on the market, or it may not yield as much milk. Some of the parts for replacement may be hard to find. It is a great choice, however for portability and pumping on the go. Its small and light and easily transported.
